America still refuses to confront one of the darkest chapters in its history: the mass killing, forced removal, broken treaties, and destruction of Native peoples—including the Apache Indians. We do not need to diminish the Holocaust or rank one people’s suffering against another to tell the truth: what happened to Native Americans was genocide, and its wounds did not disappear.
