Joseph Czuba, a 73-year-old man from Plainfield, Illinois, was convicted on Friday of first-degree murder and a slew of additional charges in the October 2023 murder of Wadea Al-Fayoume, a 6-year-old Palestinian-American boy whose mother was also brutalized, but survived Czuba’s wrath. The October 14, 2023 murder came in direct response to the start of Israel’s war in Gaza, and prosecutors say that Czuba became radicalized against Palestinians thanks to his devout following of zionist news media programs.
6-year-old Palestinian-American boy Wadea Al-Fayoume was stabbed a whopping 26 times in the October 14th, 2023 attack that took his life while his mother, 32-year-old Hanaan Shahin, was stabbed more than a dozen times by Joseph Czuba, a Chicago-area senior citizen who, upon his arrest, readily told law enforcement that he’s an ardent supporter of Israel, and attacked the mother and son because of their Palestinian heritage. The attack was so brutal, that when first responders arrived on the scene, Czuba’s knife was still sticking out of the little boy’s chest, as he lay dead.
“Your people is killing Jewish and babies in Israel!” Czuba shouted during his attack, according to victim Hanaan Shahin’s courtroom testimony. “Muslims are not welcome here in my home,” Czuba told Shahin, who’d started renting two rooms from Czuba before the conflict in Gaza began.
During his arrest, a blood-soaked Czuba reportedly told deputies from the Will County Sheriff’s Office that he believed Shahin and her six-year-old son to be “trained fighters” and that he was”afraid they were going to do jihad on me.”
Furthermore, on his ride to jail, law enforcement says that Czuba made “unprompted comments” about the Palestine Liberation Organization (better known as the PLO), the political entity that controlled Gaza before Hamas, before comparing Palestinians to Nazis.
“I can’t believe all these protests and people that are supporting PLO,” Czuba said. “It’s so evil…It’s like Nazis. It’s crazy,” he said, also comparing Palestinians to “infested rats.”
After murdering six-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume and attempting to take the life of the boy’s mother, Czuba was charged with three counts of first-degree murder, one count of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery, and two hate crimes. He pled not guilty to everything and the case went to trial.
It was during that trial that prosecutors alleged Czuba had become “radicalized” by zionist propaganda, thanks to his listening to staunchly pro-Israel conservative media programs.
“This happened because this defendant was afraid that a war that had started on October 7, 2023, a half a world away in the Middle East was going to come to his doorstep,” said Will County prosecutor Michael Fitzgerald, according to NBC News.
Joseph Czuba’s sentencing date is set for May 2nd, 2025, and he’s expected to spend the rest of his life in prison.
Czuba’s murderous attack on a six-year-old boy and his mother, however, is far from the only pro-Israel rampage that’s been seen in the United States, which in many ways, has become its own front in the third-world ethnoreligious conflict between Muslims and Jews.
Last fall, a group of pro-Israel Jewish “activists” were arrested in Los Angeles, California, where police say they’d attacked a pro-Palestinian protest encampment at UCLA with lethal weaponry, including explosives.
In February, a 27-year-old Jewish man named Mordechai Brafman was arrested in Florida and charged with shooting, at random, two Israeli tourists, falsely believing them to be Palestinians.
